A weekend of industry and the arts (on two wheels!) co-presented by the Workers Arts & Heritage Centre and The Bicycle Opera Project.
Join us for a full weekend of events, including all ages Hamilton Labour History Bike Tours, a Handmade Marketplace, and two presentations of Sweat, an a cappella opera for nine singers by Juliet Palmer and Anna Chatterton about the global garment industry. Scored for chorus and four soloists performing in English as well as Cantonese, Ukrainian, Spanish, and Hungarian, Sweat seeks to bring the audience into the heart of a contemporary sweatshop. This opera offers a window into the lives of the workers who clothe us.

About our Presenting Partner:
The Bicycle Opera Project is the only opera company that tours by bicycle. Designed to bring contemporary Canadian music to smaller communities where there is little opportunity to hear it, our company closes the gap between audiences and singers by performing in intimate spaces. We perform new Canadian works that focus on current issues, in English. Even though the Canadian music world has many talented composers, the mainstream public knows little of their exciting new work. We work directly with composers to rearrange works for a small, portable instrumental ensemble that can be toured on bicycle, creating a car-free alternative to touring.
Bike Tours are Free/PWYC and depart from WAHC; pre-registration is required. Tickets for Sweat are PWYC, $20-25 suggested. Pre-purchase of tickets is advised; a limited number of tickets will be available at the door in advance of showtime on both days.
