This March Break, come and learn about the history of workers in Hamilton, and across the country in celebration of Canada's 150th Birthday! Through a series of diverse art activities, from songwriting and storytelling to making bow ties and trading cards, we will explore the important role of working people to our community and Canada, past and present.

Monday, March 13th      Art + Work   with Cornelia Peckart

Kids will explore the wide world of work through a variety of art activities in this camp day, from recognizing jobs through objects from our collection, to creating printed aprons and a large-scale artwork inspired by the work by the Justseeds Artists’ Cooperative.

Tuesday, March 14th    Sew-What!   with Hitoko Okada

Drawing from our main gallery exhibition, All or None, campers will learn about the work of garment workers in Canada (and around the world, too), and learn to make and sew denim pockets, and functional bow ties!

Wednesday, March 15th       Work Stories

Thursday, March 16th     Workers' Trading Cards   with Matt McInnes

Trading cards are often made to honour sports heroes. In this fun final day of camp, Matt McInnes will help kids make a series of unique trading cards honoring workers from our museum displays and in their communities using drawing and screenprinting.

Friday, March 17th     Hootenanny!   with Sophia Perlman

Inspired by historic and contemporary work and protest songs such as We Shall Overcome, kids will write and record their own "rise up" song about something important to them.

*Camp theme days are subject to change until February 28th.

At the end of camp on Friday, March 17th from 4-5pm, parents, family and friends are invited to come for a post-camp celebration at the museum with pizza and a performance!

For children ages 7-11; pre-registration is required. Admission for each day of camp is $20, and $100 for the entire week. Sign up for as many or as few days as you like! Subsidized spots are available—no one will be turned away due to lack of funds. A wholesome lunch and nut-free snacks throughout the day are included as part of each camp day. Registration ends March 9th at noon.
