SUMMARY:BALIKBAYAN Caregiver Gathering Series
DESCRIPTION:A workshop and gathering series for migrant care workers from the GTHA with the Kwentong Bayan Collective\, at the Workers Arts & Heritage Centre. \nPresented in conjunction with our winter exhibition BALIKBAYAN by the Kwentong Bayan Collective\, this series of gatherings will bring together workers from Hamilton and Toronto for a healing soup circle\, to create storytelling wearables\, and plant native seeds. At each gathering\, folks can create their own pasalubong (gifts) to take home and share with others. \nThis series will provide space for care workers in the region to socialize and engage in creative arts that draw out stories of work\, care and migration. \nRefreshments will be provided for each gathering. Public transportation from Toronto will be guided by a host from a central TTC Station. \n\nSunday\, February 25th\, 1-4 pm     Healing Soup Circle  \nwith the Kwentong Bayan Collective and artist Karen Ancheta \nWe will learn how to make a traditional Filipino healing soup and share a community meal. Guest facilitator Karen Ancheta will share stories about the traditional ingredients used to make Chicken Tinola soup. Vegetarian options provided. \nWe will honour the labour of migrant agricultural workers and local farmers who help us access fresh and healthy food.  REGISTER HERE \n\nSunday\, March 18th\, 1-4 pm     Community Storytelling  \nwith the Kwentong Bayan Collective and CCESSO \nGuest facilitators from Caregiver Connections\, Support & Education Organization (CCESO) will teach us about the history of Overseas Filipino Workers. We will honour the unique and enduring relationship that exists between Indigenous Peoples and the land. \nWe will create a collective map that explores our migration stories\, and design buttons that reflect on these stories.  REGISTER HERE \n\nSunday\, April 15th\, 1-4 pm     Planting Native Seeds  \nwith the Kwentong Bayan Collective \nWe will make plantable paper embedded with native wildflower seeds\, text and drawings.
