  • Sonali workshop WAHC

Join us for a special event with artist Sonali Menzes and writing by Hamilton Coalition to Stop the War and Labour Against the Arms Trade organizers.

"Canada, Stop Arming Saudi Arabia" is a riso-printed copy-left zine designed as a no-nonsense introductory guide for everyday people to be introduced to the topic of the now 8 year war in Yemen and Canada’ role as a major arms dealer to Saudi Arabia. Join Mayworks Festival at the Workers Arts & Heritage Centre for this Zine Launch + Silkscreen Workshop to pick up your free copy of the zine and silkscreen print your own anti-war poster (drop-in style).

Register for this workshop here.

This project was developed through Mayworks’ Labour Arts Catalyst in collaboration with Labour Against the Arms Trade and mentorship with the Hamilton Coalition to Stop the War and is presented in conjunction with the exhibition The Infrastructures of Dissent, curated by Mitra Fakhrashrafi and Tara Bursey.

SONALI MENZES is an interdisciplinary artist based in Hamilton, ON. She holds an Honours BA in Studio Art from the University of Guelph and is the youngest of triplets. While her work spans many mediums, she has been most recently focused in video, zines and printmaking. In 2018 Sonali’s chapbook zine won the Broken Pencil Magazine Zine Award for best literary zine. In 2019 she was the recipient of the City of Hamilton’s Emerging Artist Award in Media Arts. Sonali just quit her day job in art administration so she can focus on making art and spend less time on emails. If you've got any tips on how she can continue paying her bills, please let her know!

WAHC wishes to acknowledge the Ontario Arts Council, the City of Hamilton, the Province of Ontario, CUPE National, the Provincial Building and Construction Trades Council of Ontario, the Canada Council for the Arts and OSSTF for their support of our exhibitions and ancillary programs.
