SUMMARY:Celebrate Labour Day Weekend with WAHC
DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, September 3rd\, join us for a walking tour and some site-specific theatre inspired by Hamilton’s historic textile industry in honour of Labour Day weekend! \nCelebrate local history starting with a Walking Tour that explores downtown industrial and labour history sites\, with a focus on textile manufacturing led by WAHC’s very own Katherine Roy using our Workers’ City app. Each walking tour will culminate in a short performance of the play One Small Drop\, performed by local theatre artists Paula Grove and Kelly Wolf\, with Violet Gould. This program is free to the public\, and all are welcome! Space is limited for each tour and performance; early registration is strongly advised. \nOne Small Drop is a piece of collectively-created theatre using text from personal accounts of women who are part of Hamilton’s labour history. The performance explores a few of the intertwined stories of women in Hamilton’s textile industry.  Music and sound transport the viewer as we invite the audience to witness the personal and private thoughts of women from three different eras. This original piece was created for the Frostbites Festival at The Cotton Factory.  One Small Drop has been generously supported by the City of Hamilton Enrichment Fund. \nJoin us for one of three offerings: \nPaired Walking Tour with Katherine Roy at 10:30 am AND One Small Drop Performance at 12 noon (Reserve your spot via Eventbrite) \nStandalone One Small Drop Performance at 1:15 pm (Reserve your spot via Eventbrite) \nPaired Walking Tour with Katherine Roy at 2 pm AND One Small Drop Performance at 3:30 pm (Reserve your spot via Eventbrite) \nAnd don’t forget to top your weekend off on Labour Day Monday at the HDLC‘s annual Labour Day Parade and Picnic at Dundurn Park.  Join WAHC in the park after the parade\, where we will be hosting a banner and flag making workshop led by Red Tree Collective\, complementing their recent series of Public Space Works community workshops. \n\nAbout the Artists: \nKelly Wolf is a Hamilton theatre-maker with a focus on set and costume design.  She is interested in exploring ways that design can augment the theatrical experience.  She has designed for many theatres across Canada ranging from small independent companies to the major festivals. Recent work in Hamilton includes design for Rukmini’s Gold (2015 Hamilton Fringe) and Quiver (Theatre Aquarius Studio)   www.kellywolf.ca \nPaula Grove‘s theatre work in Hamilton includes various shows with Artword Theatre including James Street.  She’s also appeared in many musicals and cabarets. She co-directed The Hangman’s Reprise for the 2013 Hamilton Fringe Festival and performed\, wrote and directed the one woman show There Was and There Was Not for the 2014 Hamilton Fringe. Paula is the winner of the 2015 City of Hamilton Arts Award for Theatre. She is also a private coach and drama teacher. \nViolet Gould found her love for theatre during middle school. She continued to perform and enjoy being in school plays and musicals. In 2014 Violet was in Hamilton Theatre Inc.’s productions of Evita and recently Broadway Showstoppers. She developed and performed a lead role in Better\, a Hamilton Spectator-sponsored original production\, put on by Sir John A.
