SUMMARY:Everyday Heroes: Letter Writing to Essential Workers
DESCRIPTION:This November 27th PA Day\, join guest artist Whitney French as she leads an online letter-writing workshop for students aged 7-12. Pick up a free letter writing kit from WAHC Tuesday\, November 24 – Friday\, November 27\, 10am-4pm to use alongside the workshop (while quantities last). Gratitude for essential workers will be explored within the context of COVID-19 by discussing what an essential worker is and how their efforts impact us. Students will learn about the basic components of a letter\, and compose and decorate their own letters that can be mailed to an everyday hero\, an essential worker in their community. \nThe online workshop is available here: \n \nWhitney French is a writer and multidisciplinary artist. She is also a literacy advocate with over 10 years of experience teaching children\, youth and adults as a certified arts-educator. Her community work has allowed her to facilitate over 400 workshops in schools\, community centres\, prisons\, group-homes and First Nations reserves. Whitney French is the editor of the anthology Black Writers Matter and the co-founder of the Black queer feminist press Hush Harbour. Currently\, she lives in Toronto. \nQuestions?
