SUMMARY:Notes from the Brightside Neighbourhood Project
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an exhibition honouring the history of Brightside in WAHC’s Community Gallery. \nBrightside was a neighbourhood of workers and immigrants that flourished in the shadow of heavy industry in Hamilton’s east end from 1910 until the late 1960s\, when it was mostly demolished. Despite its having been one of the most diverse and vibrant working-class neighbourhoods in Hamilton’s era of industrial flourishing\, many contemporary Hamiltonians have never heard of Brightside. \nNotes from the Brightside Neighbourhood Project features art\, maps and stories that celebrate the people and histories of this unique place. This work is the product of a years long collaboration between Brightsiders\, artist Matt McInnes and researcher Simon Orpana\, with help from Nancy Bouchier and Rob Kristofferson. In a city undergoing rapid changes\, the people and legacies of Brightside have much to teach us about the struggles and histories that have shaped this city’s culture and character. \nJoin us for a reception in our community gallery on Saturday\, November 16th from 1-3 pm.
