SUMMARY:Sign Painting Workshop with Brush Boys
DESCRIPTION:Drawing inspiration from the painted sculpture in our Spring/Summer exhibition\, Harvest\, Sweep\, Gather\, join us for a two-day Sign Painting workshop with veteran sign writer Scott J. Martin of Brush Boys! \nThis two-part workshop runs on Friday\, August 12th from 6-9:30 pm and Saturday\, August 13th\, from 9 am-4 pm. \nThe historic trade of sign writing is enjoying a comeback through its bold use of type and script that adds artistry to urban space. In this two-day workshop\, you will learn about the history and tools associated with this fascinating trade. After practicing brush handling and block letter construction\, you will work towards making your own personalized sign panel! \nAbout Scott J. Martin: Scott J. Martin is a long-time sign writer and owner of Brush Boys\, a sign company that specializes in traditional hand lettering and sign making techniques using modern substrates and materials. They produce signage for shop fronts\, walls and vehicles\, and specialize in sign restoration and reproduction. \nThis workshop is suitable for ages 12 and up. Younger participants should be accompanied by an adult\, and it is recommended that they work towards producing a single sign panel together. All materials and equipment for the workshop will be provided. There is a suggested $20 materials fee per participant/family that should be paid at the time of registration\, but payment is on a sliding scale and no one will be turned away due to lack of funds. Deadline for workshop sign-up is Thursday\, August 11th at Noon. \nPre-registration for workshop is required; workshop participants are required to take both Friday evening and Saturday workshops. Registration can be done with this form (doc or pdf) by mail\, dropping it off in person\, or email. Unfortunately\, at this time we are unable to accept any registration over the phone.  For more information about these workshops\, contact Tara Bursey\, Program Coordinator at tara@wahc-museum.ca. \n
