Join us this Labour Day long weekend on Sunday, August 31st at the Workers Arts & Heritage Centre for the launch of the brand-new title, The Art of Solidarity from Between the Lines.

To celebrate this new collection of writing on the legacy and future of labour arts in Canada the launch will include:

  • A conversation between Co-Editors Rob Kristofferson and Stephanie Ross alongside contributors
  • The opportunity to peek into WAHC’s permanent collection
  • The chance to buy the book courtesy of King West Books!

Edited by Stephanie Ross and Rob Kristofferson and featuring contributions from Min Sook Lee, the Graphic History Collective, and Karl Beveridge (among others), The Art of Solidarity delves into the rich tapestry of labour arts and heritage in Canada—from protest music and union banners, to murals, community theatre, and oral histories, to workers’ history museums and arts festivals—showcasing how these expressions of working people’s culture have been essential to challenging inequality and fostering solidarity.

The work featured in the book highlights the resilience and creativity of labour arts and heritage practitioners who, despite financial and organizational challenges, continue to amplify the voices and experiences of working-class communities.

If you’re not able to attend but still want to read the book, pre-order it today!

This event is free and open to all but if you want to plan ahead, you can save your spot below.

The event is part of WAHC’s 2025 Labour Day celebrations. Make sure to check out the details of  Words at Work: Labour Poetry with Farah Ghafoor on August 28th and be sure to visit us at the HDLC’s Labour Day BBQ on September 1.
