SUMMARY:WAHC Youth and Work Summit
DESCRIPTION:The WAHC Youth and Work Summit is an exciting opportunity for youth leaders aged 16-25 from Hamilton and area to learn about our museum\, meet other youth groups\, discuss their respective projects and become inspired by talks and hands-on activities over a full day. This summit will welcome youth to WAHC and create a dialogue around issues related to youth and work today. Guest speakers/facilitators include Kendra Coulter\, Professor of Labour Studies at Brock University and Mary Tremonte\, artist and member of the Justseeds Artists Cooperative (USA/Canada/Mexico). Registration deadline is March 31\, 2015 at 4 pm. \n\nSchedule of Events: \n9:00-10:00 am  Tour of the Workers Arts & Heritage Centre and the -Home (Hyphenated Home) exhibition \n10:00 am-12:00 pm  Pecha Kucha-style presentations from participating youth groups/individuals \n12:00 pm  Catered lunch/picnic (weather permitting) \n1:00 pm  Guest speaker Kendra Coulter will discuss youth\, activism and retail work \n2:00-4:00 pm   SILKSCREEN PRINTING FOR EVERYONE workshop with Mary Tremonte of the Justseeds Artists’ Cooperative \n\nGuest Biographies: \nDr. Kendra Coulter is an associate professor in the Centre for Labour Studies at Brock University\, Canada’s fastest growing labour studies program. Her latest book is Revolutionizing Retail: Workers\, Political Action\, and Social Change. Dr. Coulter also teaches Brock’s unique “Animals at Work” course. \nMary Tremonte is an artist\, educator\, and DJ based in Toronto via Pittsburgh\, PA. A founding member of Justseeds Artists’ Cooperative\, she works with “printmaking in the expanded field\,” including printstallation\, interactive silkscreen printing in public space\, and wearable artist multiples. Mary has exhibited\, presented lectures and workshops\, and performed in Toronto\, throughout the United States\, and internationally. Through her work she aims to create temporary utopias and sustainable commons through pedagogy\, collaboration\, visual pleasure and serious fun. \nJustseeds Artists’ Cooperative is a decentralized network of 30 artists committed to making print and design work that reflects a radical social\, environmental\, and political stance. With members working from the U.S.\, Canada\, and Mexico\, Justseeds operates both as a unified collaboration of similarly minded printmakers and as a loose collection of creative individuals with unique viewpoints and working methods. They believe in the transformative power of personal expression in concert with collective action. To this end\, they produce collective portfolios\, contribute graphics to grassroots struggles for justice\, work collaboratively both in- and outside the co-op\, build large sculptural installations in galleries\, and wheatpaste on the streets – all while offering each other daily support as allies and friends.
